I started playing around with charcoal in 2008. I love how easy it is to draw with. I like to use my fingers for the shadowing and I love creating depth with multiple layers. To set my pictures and prevent them from getting smudged, I spray my finished piece with aerosol hairspray. Give charcoal drawing a try. Trust me...it's super fun :)
